F.A.Q.
How many hours do school bus drivers typically work in a week?
A typical normal work week for a bus driver is 20 hours in a week; 4 hours a day (2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon) for 5 (five) school days. More hours might be available from bus charter work (e.g. school field trip, etc.) or other work that might come available throughout the school year at the location.
How does the Sign-On Bonus work?
Currently we are offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus: $5,000 for New or experienced candidates (CURRENT CDL/Passenger/school bus permit for min. of 2 yrs. or 24 (twenty-four) months).
Sign-On bonus payout is paid out at $1,000 on your first check following the week you start driving your route. The remaining $4,000 is paid out in increments of $500 every quarter until the remainder of the bonus limit has been met (please note: there is NO bonus payout during the summer months and summer months does not count towards the "quarter" payout plan. Please see payroll upon hired.)

What consist of bus driver training and how long is a typical new candidate training?
We are offering CDL and General Knowledge training. Upon completion, candidates will then proceed to the behind-the-wheel training process, which will be the last stage of the traning before the candidate's placement at the applied location.
It takes typically 3 (three) to 4 (four) weeks for a new inexperience candidate to complete training (from CDL to behind the wheel) before he or she is ready to work at the applied location.
Training pay is $15 an hour for NEW candidates and Route pay for Experienced candidates.
What are paid holidays?
Paid holidays are the holidays, which eligible drivers will receive upon satisfactory requirements. We have 7 paid holidays throughout the school year.
Does First Student offer any kind of health insurance?
Yes, First Student does offer variety of health insurance packages for its drivers. Prices and packages vary depending on employee's situation and condition. We also provide vision insurace paid for by the company as well as a lump sum pension fund.
